ITT: POTENTIAL 514
1. The economy in Dust is all but non-existent. At the very least allow us to trade with mercs and sell back items. 2. The connection between Dust and EVE is minimal. FW games have very little impact on FW mechanics. 3. Visionary developers are always a plus. However, you actually need to deliver on promises. I can think of the greatest novel in the world, but until I actually write it, it's nothing. 4. Being released isn't a plus IMO. Now that Dust is out of BETA, there are no more excuses for bad gameplay and terrible mechanics. 5. Customization is a real plus, however, it also makes balancing difficult. CCP needs to be able to balance without going too far. The TAC nerf seems about right, the Laser rifle and Mass Driver nerfs were not. 6. There is a potential for narrative and that will increase as EVE and Dust are further integrated, but right now, this game doesn't feel very much like a sandbox. 7. Yeah, it's free. That will only get you so far. Personally, I will not buy any more Aurum until I see CCP get serious about Dust.
For the most part, there is no reason for a Dust player to play EVE or an EVE player to play Dust. That is the most glaring problem IMO. |

Thing is. Some people in here been very supportive for over a year. Dont make the mistake to think that everyone hear is pissed off an acts like a little kid after playing the game for a month. Like always, there's kind of a burnout among the community. No matter what people say, it has been very much supportive of CCP's work. Done major stuff to provide the game some audience in closed beta. Podcasts, websites, reddits, feedback, etc...
This burnout is for CCP to fix. When this community gets the sign it needs, it will come back highly motivated.
Point being, it's a bit easy to say players should do better. When in fact, they're customers.
As a CPM you should know better than most that CCP has limited resources and capability to control a mass of players (customers as you rightly say) It is up to us as consumers to provide logical, constructive feedback that aids the development of the game, if we wish to have better products. If it is all a cacophony of noise and rage, that serves no one. I cite the Goonswarm provision of the Titan Overhaul document that was produced for CCP to critique and review how Titans were broken and in need of alteration. This was a logical, non troll filled paper that clearly and concisely laid out the issues and was received well by CCP who went on to make a number of the changes. I would also suggest that as CPM it surely is in your remit to better govern the community than you have been doing so far - sure you cant un-troll the trolls but all i see at the moment is CPM mandates fueling perceived self interests (PC - Cal Logi) and a collective shuffling of feet when difficult questions are asked. Your position of CPM gives you the communities ear but not their respect, that has to be earned.....
CCP Shanghai and CCP Iceland are too different animals. As an EVE player, I have respect and faith in CCP Iceland, despite their limited resources. They earned that respect after losing much of it in 2011. Their focus on ship balancing and increased communication went a long way towards redeeming their image as a company. Hilmar practically prostrated himself during the 2012 Fanfest and apologized for losing focus while promising to improve EVE and place the customer, rather than the micro-transaction team, as top priority. Unfortunately, CCP Shanghai is intent on acting like pre-2012 CCP. Either the Shanghai team wasn't invited to Fanfest or they were out to lunch during the main presentation. The communication is minimal to non-existent and I suspect this is a language issue. This is where CCP Mintchip is supposed to fill in but she can only tell the community what she herself has been told.
While some improvements were made in Uprising, many glaring problems began to pop up or become worse as well. Problems are going to occur for every iteration of Dust I'm sure, but many of these issues were brought up prior to Dust launching. Some issues were made worse for no logical reason, Murder Taxi for example. The decision to launch on May 14th, solely for marketing purposes, seems to be the biggest slap in the face. The game was, and remains, in no way ready for launch. The decision to go ahead with the launch, despite the glaring problems, smacks of marketing department BS. Protip CCP: If you want your customer base to lose all faith in your company, let the marketing department and bean counters run the show. Add to this the mind numbing SP grind, solely to sell boosters, and Shanghai is well on its way to Incarna.
Since we don't have statues to shoot at, CCP has only a dropping player count and a forum revolt to gauge their customer's dissatisfaction. The important thing is this can all be fixed, but it's going to take a little effort and a lot of pride swallowing. |
